Sand and Fury
2003 Jennifer Lyon

A regatta of artillary
Floats on dry seas
Fishermen with rifles
Fish in rows
A sand castle crumbles
from disruptions at night
Pretty bright flashes
Bury mariners in the water
The fishermen snag ambushes
The fish chase after baitless hooks
A storm surges and swells
Rising waves
Smother fish and the fishermen
Yet still the fish swim
And the fishermen fish
For they only know
Of the water around them
And fury that consume them.
